UNIKA – the sculptor’s fair in Val Gardena

16th sculptor’s fair in Val Gardena

From the 3. to the 5. of September 2010 UNIKA will be held in Val Gardena. This exhibition and review of the Val Gardena sculptors will present the art of woodcarving to an interested public. For three days they will transform the Tennis centre where the event will takes place into the largest workshop in the world, thus offering the possibility to the visitor to watch the creation of an unique work of art as well as getting informations about the ancient tradition of woodcarving in Val Gardena considering the purchase of a special work.

Exceptional mountaineers

For the first time, exceptional mountaineers are awarded on the 9.-10.7.2010 in Selva di Val Gardena – Dolomites - South Tyrol.

The members of the work group have selected 5 mountaineers or teams of mountaineers from all over Europe. Their achievements will be presented during two evenings in the square Piazza Municipio with video recordings and slide shows.

Val Gardena Spring Trophy

The creme de la creme of ice skating in Selva.

This year Selva will once again play host to the “Val Gardena Spring Trophy“ .The international junior ice skating competition takes place in the Ice stadium Pranives from April 1 to 3, 2010.

The Val Gardena Spring Trophy celebrates its 20th edition this year, and the interesting and often spectacular live performances of an international field of competitors will once again impress the audience. Year after year many successful athletes come to Val Gardena and show you their skills and abilities.

Südtirol Gardenissima 2010

gardenissima-2010Südtirol Gardenissima is a giant slalom race, taking place on Sunday 28th March 2010 for the 14th time in the Val Gardena.  Starting at the top of the Seceda lift and ending at the bottom station of the Col Raiser lift, the piste is 6km long and descends 1033m (3389ft).

Anyone over the age of 14 can take part in the race, from top national athletes to keen amateurs. Two racers of the same category start together, then after racing the first kilometre on parallel tracks, the two pistes merge and participants continue, racing against each other on the same track.

Val Gardena has got the “TOP” ski slopes!

According the Italian newspaper “Il Sole 24 ore”, Val Gardena has got some of the “10 TOP” ski slopes in Italy. In a special online edition about sport and outdoor activities, the Italian newspaper „Il Sole 24 ore“, named the “Saslong” slope, where annual ski World Cup races take place, as one of the “10 TOP classic ski slopes” in Italy that you must definitely try yourself.

Two more slopes in the Val Gardena were listed as “new entries”: the “Cir”,  reached from Selva by the “Dantercepies” cable car; and the “La longia”, with its 10.5 km from the top of Seceda down to Ortisei one of the longest runs in the Dolomites.

Val Gardena winner of the “Skigebiet-Check”

“Val Gardena wins with 89 points” was the headline of the report on the German online winter-sports site “snow-online.de” which announced the results of this year’s evaluation.
Once before, in the season 2005/2006, the Val Gardena won first place in the “Ski Resort Check” from “snow-online.de”  The Val Gardena was tested again this year and, together with Zermatt and St. Moritz, won top prize with a total of 89 points.
